The Sunrise Movement is a youth movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. We’re building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.
At Carolina, we're fighting to pass a Green New Deal for UNC, a far-reaching proposal to transform UNC to face the climate crisis and build a more equitable and just university and world in the process. Compiled by Sunrise Movement organizers in coordination with our peers, colleagues, teachers, and Orange County community members, this policy framework represents the needs of the UNC-Chapel Hill community as well as the long-overdue obligations of the University itself. We demand that Carolina end reliance on fossil fuels, provide a comprehensive climate education, and reinvest in students, staff, and North Carolina communities. This is the decade of the Green New Deal, and now is the time for America’s first public university to be a leader in the fight for a just and livable future.
